Three members of a family, including a child, were burnt when compressor of a refrigerator exploded at a house in the capital’s Jatrabari Konapara area on Thursday morning.

The injured are Abdul Karim, 30, his wife Khadija Akhter, 25, and their one and a half year old daughter Fatema.

All of them are undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS) in the capital.

Mohammad Hasan, a tenant of the house, said the explosion occurred on the ground floor of Abdul Kalam’s four-storey house at Jatrabari Konapara Arabari Battala around 3:30am, leaving the trio injured.

According to the doctor on duty at the Burn Institute, Abdul Karim suffered 54 per cent burn injuries, Khadija 95 per cent and Fatima 35 per cent. Karim has been kept in HDU while Khadiaj and Fatema in ICU. The physical condition of all of them are critical.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Camp in-charge (inspector) Bachchu Mia confirmed the matter.
